With the auction about 15 days away, the teams in the 7 edition of the cash rich Indian Premier League announced the players that each franchise retained.
Shah Rukh Khan backed Kolkata Knight Riders retained their title winning skipper Gautam Gambhir and spin sensation Sunil Narine. Gambhir had a good run with the bat and was the most expenisve player that KKR picked up last season for a staggering $ 2.4 million while Narine was an investment that boosted the Knightriders fortunes. KKR CEO Venky Mysore was delighted to have retained thier two key perfomrers and hopes ‘to build a competetive and exciting squad.” The Knightriders now have a $ 6 million salary cap with two retention cards when the auction happens early next month.
Meanwhile Sun TV owned Sunrisers Hyderabad retained their star players from last season- maverick South African pacer Dale Steyn and Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan. The Sunrisers had a good last season with some good games and close finishes and will look forward to keep the momentum. The Hyderabadis now have a $6 million auction purse and two right-to-match cardsgoing inot the auction next month.
The 2014 IPL auction will be held on February 12 in Bangalore.
