The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have named a squad of 12 MCC Women’s Young Cricketers for the 2013 season.
The squad includes England-capped players Tamsin Beaumont, Amy Jones, Sarah Taylor and Danielle Wyatt and eight players from the England Academy.
The programme, delivered alongside the ECB for the second year, will be led by England Women’s coach Mark Lane, who will be assisted by Lisa Keightley, head coach of the Academy.
“MCC is absolutely delighted to once again join-up with the ECB to deliver the MCC Women’s Young Cricketers programme for the 2013 season,” John Stephenson, MCC Head of Cricket said.
“The Club is a very proud supporter of women’s cricket, and it is fantastic that we can now offer such a dynamic and purposeful programme for some of the brightest young talents in England to intensively develop their skills at Lord’s during the summer.
“In particular, the opportunity for some of the younger players in the squad, such as eighteen-year-old Jess Watson from Yorkshire, to be able to share a dressing room with seasoned international performers like Sarah Taylor and Danni Wyatt, is invaluable, so I hope all the players make the most of their summer at Lord’s.”
ECB Head of Women’s Cricket, Clare Connor, added: “We are excited about another season working with MCC to develop some of our highest potential women’s cricketers.
“The MCC Women’s YCs scheme is going from strength to strength in terms of the opportunities we are able to create for player development, from a technical, tactical and physical perspective.
“Over the winter we were able to select a squad from the England Women’s Development Programme to represent MCC in Abu Dhabi at the inaugural MCC U19 Women’s ARCH Trophy.
“This represented another huge stride in terms of the joint commitment between the ECB and MCC to the women’s game, and we look forward to a summer of even more exciting opportunities and performances.”
