Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak and uncapped batsman Shamsur Rahman have been added to Bangladesh’s squad for next month’s three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
Razzak will be afforded the opportunity to build on his 200 ODI wickets – the most by a Bangladeshi. Rahman, meanwhile, will seek redemption for his first-ball duck on Twenty20 International debut against Sri Lanka in March.
The tourists will be without fast bowler Mashrafe Mortaza, who has been sidelined by a heel injury sustained during the Bangladesh Premier League earlier this year.
“According to the assessment of the Bangladesh Cricket Board medical team, Mortaza has not fully recovered from the injury and still feels pain,” said chief selector Akram Khan.
“There is a risk of him aggravating the injury if he returns to play, and he could become susceptible to new injuries also. Under the circumstances, we felt it was best to allow him more time to continue with his rehabilitation programme.”
Batsman Shahriar Nafees and slow bowler Enamul Haque junior are expected to return home shortly after the two-match Test series, which the Zimbabweans currently lead on the back of a 335-run in Harare.
