Apr 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Land Reform Commission has decided to provide non-cultivated lands which belong to estate companies to unemployed youth on a lease basis.
This decision has taken according to a suggestion made by the President by the budget, the state run radio said.
According to the government, about 30,000 acres of land under estate companies are not cultivated and the Ministry of Plantation Industries plans to provide these lands to unemployed youth.
The Land Reform commission will provide necessary deeds after surveying these lands. It is expected to bestow these lands for cultivation before the end of this year.
