Apr 30, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the relevant officials to expedite development activities of Dambulla sacred area.
President Rajapaksa held a discussion at Temple Trees yesterday evening with the relevant officials regarding the implementation of the development programme of Dambulla sacred area.
During the meeting President instructed the officials to promptly compensate the native residents whose land has been taken for the development and also provide them with alternate land.
President Rajapaksa stressed that all development activities should be carried out while preserving the archeological values.
Speaking at the occasion Chief Incumbent of Rangiri Dambulu Viharaya Venerable Inamaluwe Sumangala Thero pointed out that a large number of people from many countries visit the Temple after it was declared as a World Heritage Site.
Deputy Minister of Buddha Sasana & Religious Affairs M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardena, Deputy Minister Nandimithra Ekanayake, Secreatry to the President Lalith Weeratunga, and senior officials of the Archeology and National Physical Planning Departments also participated in the discussion.
