Apr 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka's National Zoological Gardens in Dehiwala plans to import three lion cubs to add to the current lion exhibit in the zoo, zoo officials said.

The lion cubs will be brought to the zoo in the first two weeks of May. Two female cubs are imported from Germany while a male cub is imported from South Korea. They are around two years old.

The lion cubs will be added to the display soon, according to officials.

Dehiwala National Zoo already has six lions but all of them are over 15 years of age and physically weak.

There are no naturally living lions in Sri Lanka at present although there was evidence that they lived thousands of years ago.

The lion exhibit at the state-owned only zoo comprises lions brought from other countries.
