NEWLY-promoted Keynsham warmed up for tomorrow’s testing opener at home to champions Bridgwater in Premier One of the Wadworth 6X West of England Premier League with an encouraging four-wicket win at Newport in the ECB National Cup.

Sam Wheller (3-29), Paul Robbins (3-33) and skipper Gary Worgan (3-43) combined to bowl out the Welsh side for 217.

Worgan (73) and Dan Jarman (48) then shared a century opening stand for Keynsham with Robbins adding 29 as the visitors eased to their target with more than three overs to spare to book a trip to Corsham in the second round on May 12.

Bristol will now be away to Sully Centurions thanks to a 101-run triumph at Swansea.

Will Rudge is again captaining the Failand-based outfit who hope to have star batsman Will Tavare available all summer.

Rockhampton, meanwhile, entertain Redmarley on Sunday with the winners home to Frampton-on-Severn or Apperley.

Gloucestershire open their ECB Women’s County Championship Division Three campaign with a home clash against Northamptonshire at Thornbury on Sunday (11am) before hosting the Dutch national side, at the same venue, on Monday.

Bristol Phoenix were 88-run victors over Taunton St Andrews at Chipping Sodbury in their first South West Women’s Regional League Premier Division clash of the campaign.

Abby Evans top scored with 63 on her return from the United States and opener Alex Macdonald hit 62 in a total of 209-6.

Macdonald then followed up with 5-19 from 8.3 overs as Saints folded from 82-2 to 121 all out, Chloe Davis bagging 3-19 from six.

Bishopston play host to Downend and Bedminster in the first round of the ECB’s National Club Twenty20 on Monday.

The action, at Westbury Fields off Greystoke Avenue, starts at 10.30am.
